Individual PCF requests

  • Updated

Received a request from your customer to build and share product-level Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) on Manufacture 2030? Now, it’s time to take action. This guide covers the main steps to complete PCFs, a checklist to review as you go, and where to get more support.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Set up your account

First, let's get your account ready to track footprints accurately.

Add your facilities

  • Add each facility that makes the requested products.
  • If multiple facilities make the same product, make sure to add them all.
  • For detailed guidance, see here.

💡 Why this matters: Different facilities may have different production methods and energy sources, which affects your carbon footprint calculations.

Select/update your customers

💡 Why this matters: This will allow M2030 to share your reporting data and PCFs with your customers correctly.

Add users

  • Invite key team members to access the platform.
  • Assign appropriate permissions.
  • For detailed guidance, see here.

💡 Why this matters: Having the right team members on the platform speeds up data collection and verification.

Set up your energy types

  • Configure your energy types.
  • Ensure they match your actual usage.
  • For detailed guidance, see here.

💡 Why this matters: By specifying the energy types (such as electricity or natural gas) used at each facility, M2030 can plug into this information automatically when calculating your PCFs (it’s also necessary if you are sharing annual measurement submissions through the platform).

Example scenario ⚡️

If Facility A uses renewable electricity while Facility B uses electricity from the grid, indicating this during your account set-up enables more precise PCF calculations.

To recap, complete this step by:

✅ Adding your facilities in M2030
✅ Checking your customers are correct in M2030
✅ Inviting relevant colleagues as account users
✅ Setting up your energy units

Step 2: Review your customer’s request

Before building PCFs, let's make sure you understand exactly what your customer needs.

Check the details

  • Open your PCF request email
  • Make a note of which products, part numbers or SKUs they're asking for
  • List which of your facilities supply these products. If there’s more than one, you’ll need to list both.

💡 Why this matters: Understanding your customer's exact requirements helps ensure you provide the right information in the correct format.

Step 3: Create product profiles

Add your products

  1. Open the PCF Module
  2. Click “Add New Product”
  3. Select "Individual product"
  4. Enter your product details:

    • Product name
    • Product ID
    • Product measurement unit

💡 Why this matters: Using accurate product information helps your customer easily identify and track specific products.

Example scenario ⚡️

If your customer uses "API-001" for aspirin:

  • ✅ Use: "API-001 Aspirin"
  • ❌ Avoid: Generic terms like "Pain Relief Medicine"

To recap, complete this step by:

✅ Creating all relevant product entries on M2030
✅ Entering accurate product information that aligns with your customer’s terms

Step 4: Document your approach

Add a clear description

  1. Open your product entry
  2. Find the description field
  3. Add specific product details:

    • Product type
    • Strength
    • Formulation
    • Manufacturing location

💡 Why this matters: Clear product descriptions help maintain transparency and build trust with your customers.

Your final checklist

Go through the checklist while creating PCFs so you can be confident everything is complete:

✅ Review your customer’s request to make a list of product categories
✅ List which facilities supply these products
✅ Log into your M2030 account
✅ Add your facilities in the platform
✅ Pay your license fee (if applicable)
✅ Select your customer(s)
✅ Invite relevant colleagues as account users
✅ Set up your energy units
✅ Choose your PCF approach
✅ Create all your product entries on the platform
✅ Make sure the PCF approach you used is listed in the product description
✅ Check the product description also includes the products and time period
✅ Review all product information and check it aligns with your customer’s terms
✅ Double check all information before re-saving each product entry
