Before you can create Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs), you need to add your products to M2030. In this section, you’ll learn:
- How to find and use the Product Catalog in the PCF Module
- Two methods to add products (manually or by importing product lists)
- How to give the right details for each product
Why this is relevant: The Product Catalog is your foundation for building PCFs. Getting this step right makes the rest of the process much smoother.
Products
Products can be individual items or groups of similar items that your organization manufactures. To build a PCF, you must have already added a product to the Product Catalog. There are two ways to build your PCFs, either manually or by importing existing files.
In M2030:
- The Product Catalog is defined at the organizational level
- Individual PCFs are created at the facility level
- For multiple PCFs, uploading a product list will save time
- For 1-2 PCFs, manual product entry may be easier
Method 1: Add a product manually
Follow the instructions below if you want to add a product manually.
Method 2: Import multiple products
Data preparation
- Download the product upload template.
- Complete the template (see the relevant guide below for support).
- Upload the completed template to the M2030 platform (see relevant guide for support).

Product description: add a description of the product that includes information such as:
-
Production technology;
-
Whether you will be including packaging data;
- Any internal reference information;
-
Whether it's an individual product or a group of similar products.
In the template rows:
Enter 1 or TRUE if it is an individual product
Enter 0 or FALSE if it is a group of similar products (i.e. a product category or family)
-
Product measurement unit: Enter the unit that you would use to count individual products.
For example:
Other available units include:
-
Mass: kg, t (metric), lb, t (US)
-
Volume: m3, L, CCF, ft3, lmp. gallon, MCF, US gallon
-
Distance: m, km, ft
-
Area: m2, ft2
-
Product weight (kg) per product measurement unit: Add the mass amount per unit of product measurement.
Note: Leave empty if using a mass-based 'Product measurement unit'
If you are using a unit that is not mass-based, e.g. m2, you need to enter the weight of the product in kg, per ‘product measurement unit’.
Here are some useful calculators to help with this conversion:
-
UN CPC Product Category Code: Enter the CPC code for the product.
Why is CPC (Central Product Classification) code being asked for?
CPC was a mandatory requirement for reporting under the WBCSD PACT Pathfinder Framework, which the M2030 tool has been built to align with. However, an update in 2025 means this is no longer a mandatory requirement.
Need help finding the right CPC code?
To find your Product's CPC code, visit this link. From here, you can download the latest manual and classification which will list all of the CPC codes which can be searched.
As of July 2024, codes from version 2.1 should be used.
